Common Air Con Problems

Failure to keep room enclosed

Some examples of improper use of air conditioners in Singapore would be failing to close all window and doors while the air conditioner is turned on. Failure to do so would likely cause the aircon to work harder in trying to cool the room. This will result in the aircon being more likely to breakdown over time. Hence a good practice would be to ensure that the room is enclosed at all times while the aircon is turned on. Not only does this reduce the chance of having a faulty aircon, this also reduces your electricity bill.

Dust and dirt collection

Another common problem would be lack of cleaning done. Cleaning the aircon is essential as dust tends to collect on the filters and air conditioning coils. Dust collection will cause the aircon to be unable to work at its full potential as the compressor and the fan is likely to stop working efficiently. Change the filters or wash the filters, depending on the type you have, once every few months to ensure ideal performance. Cleaning the air conditioning coils will help as well.

Choked drainage pipe

Having a choked drainage pipe is also a common problem faced by many these days. In a humid country like Singapore, the condensate drainage pipe (the pipe through which water drains out from) can become blocked from the collected dirt and growing mold. Performing regular vacuum and checks on the drainage pipe can eliminate backflow of water which results in leakage from the air con unit.
